When the Refs Cry

When the Refs Cry

By Baden Dangleberries, Arch-Lyricist-in-residence (on retainer)

(Sung to the tune of Prince’s “When Doves Cry”)

Dig if you will a kickball

Ruby round as your sensuous lips

The sweat of your gym socks covers me

Can you my darling

Can you kick some of this?

Dream if you can, a homerun

An ocean of outfield so green

Infielders look up, mouths wide open

They feel the heat

The heat of a kicking machine

How can you just keep on bunting?

I’m standing on 3rd base that’s so cold? (So cold)

Maybe I’m just too demanding

Maybe I’m just like my base coach, too bold

Maybe you’re just like my outfielder

She’s never satisfied (She’s never satisfied)

Why do we scream at each other?

This is what it sounds like

When the refs cry

Touch if you will my quadriceps

Feel how they tremble inside

You’ve got my hamstrings all tied up

Don’t make me chase you

Even base runners have pride

How can you just leave me bunting?

Alone on 3rd base that’s so cold? (3rd base is so cold)

Maybe I’m just too demanding

Maybe I’m just like my base coach, too bold

Maybe you’re just like my outfielder

She’s never satisfied (She’s never satisfied)

Why do we scream at each other?

This is what it sounds like

When the refs cry

When the refs cry

When the refs cry (Refs cry, Refs cry)

When the refs cry (Refs cry, Refs cry)

Don’t cry (Don’t Cry)

When the refs cry

When the refs cry

When the refs cry

When the refs cry (Refs cry, Refs cry)

Don’t cry

Darling don’t cry

Don’t cry

Don’t cry

Don’t, don’t cry
